Check them out for yourself. Don’t make a decision until you look at a minimum of three options. Spend at least an hour talking to the admissions counselor at each one. Also, talk to a minimum of three or four students and spend plenty of time walking around each school. Then, come visit Catalyst. While you are here, ask yourself:
• Do I feel comfortable here?
• Do the teachers really care about me, personally?
• Will I be challenged here?
• Will I work on my most important needs first and directly, or will I jump into classes hoping that everything will work out eventually?
• How much control will I have over my educational life? Will it help me keep control over my personal life, or will it feed into similar problems I’ve had in the past?
• When I have completed the graduation requirements, will I be prepared to do what I want to do next, attend college or a get a job?
What are the Best Qualities of Catalyst?
• Students usually talk about the personal relationships and the one-on-one attention that they get from the teachers.
• Many students tell stories about teachers calling home with encouragement, and steadfastly refusing to let the student fail.
• We think that learning skills, accessing information, logically discussing, and problem solving are more important than learning “stuff.”
• Discussion, creation and demonstration are the norm, not lecture and regurgitation.
• With “classes of one,” there is no need for lecture. And, there is little need for testing, because the teacher will know if you get it!
Who is in Control at Catalyst?
At Catalyst, you will be in control of all key decisions about your education. As an example, guess who will call in about an absence? You will! It may take you three or four months before you realize just how much control you actually have. Once you fully realize this, control becomes power. When you feel powerful, the sky’s the limit!
Will Catalyst Work for Me if I Already Have a Career?
In most circumstances, yes, it will. We have created a program that requires fewer hours in school and a very flexible schedule. If you have a career -- modeling, acting, or music are common examples -- we will accommodate your professional demands by creating a schedule that requires you to attend school when you are in town and emphasizes maintaining progress and virtual contact with a teacher while you are on the road.
